Drop Spindle Workshop- Beginner
Sunday April 26 ,2020
1 - 3 pm

fee: $20.00
Instructor - Kerry-Lyn Smith

This is a beginner workshop for those who are interested in learning the art of spinning yarn. No previous experience is required for this course. Learning to spin on the drop spindle is an art that dates back thousands of years. In this course, you will learn how to prepare fleece for spinning, how to attach the yarn to the spindle, fingering techniques to control and spin the yarn, and also how to wrap the yarn on the spindle as you spin. You will create a single ply yarn.

Once you have mastered how to spin on a drop spindle, much of the learned technique can then be applied to learn how to ply yarn or even how to spin on a spinning wheel if you so desire!

Required Materials/Tools:

You must have a drop spindle in good working order and 30grams of wool roving.  Both can be purchased in the studio (Ashford student drop spindle: $18.99, 30 grams of 22 micron merino: $3.50)
